Cluster of Blessings

Hey.

We realized…

…that what we’re doing…

…is anti-fragile in nature.

How, you ask.

Since what we’re doing is in stocks. Equity. Robust at best. Not anti-fragile.

?

Well, take a definition, and expand it a bit, and the definition starts to make broader sense. One draws on the definition, and creates a utility for that definition in one’s own line of work. That’s what we’ve done. Creator of the term anti-fragile, Mr. Taleb, could turn around and say, hey, you’ve just taken my thing and used it in your thing. Of course we’ve done that. We stand on the shoulders of giants, giants like Mr. Taleb. And now we’ve got his thing, projecting onto our thing, making something new out of our thing. Bottomline, we have a thing that is anti-fragile, and Taleb gets credit for his thing starting to develop universality, at least across another asset class.

So how are we doing stocks in an anti-fragile manner?

We benefit from chaos, volatility, uncertainty, fear and the like.

How?

Before these conditions cause mayhem in stocks, we have gravitated, in a growth market, over the years, to exhibit meaningful holding power. Both mentally, and financially. So, what do we possess before topsy turvy conditions, like now? Holding power.

What else are we armed with?

Liquidity.

Liquidity is a state of mind. Our state of mind causes us to be liquid at the right time.

Next.

We have…

…high conviction. In a basket of market players. Our due diligence regimen, over decades, has allowed us the means to recognize such stocks. In these, we have developed what?

High conviction.

We are itching to buy these underlyings, at huge…

…margins of safety.

Cut to current conditions. Chaos, volatility, uncertainty, fear, war, maniac, missiles, nuclear threat and what have you.

The margin of safety that we look for starts to abound. We accumulate high conviction underlyings, over multiple buys, ending up with low buying averages.

As conditions amplify, buying averages get lower. We are benefiting from chaotic conditions in that our buying averages are getting lower and lower.

Perceptions change for the better. They always do. Gone is 1929, where it took the better part of two decades for circumstances to change. Till 2019, one used to talk about max 15 to 18 months being the length of a bear market. Information flows very fast. When efficient, whenever that is, markets are then super-efficient. Factoring in is taking days, perhaps only a day. A change in perception is incorporating very, very fast. Frankly, we’re talking months, not even years. And, we’re mentally and financially prepared, with our holding power, for a time-frame measured in years.

Comes the turnaround. Sooner than later, such are the times.

Our low buying averages multiply fast. In fact, very fast. The lower they are, in our high conviction holdings, the faster they multiply. We start to hold many 2-baggers in 3 to 6 months, for example.

Now we call the shots. In fact, our very low buying averages do.

We can choose to pull our principal out, full 100%, at 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or what have you, depending on our muse.

The moment we go cost-free, we have moved into 100% margin of safety. Nothing can break our cost-free-ness (except ourselves). We can choose to leave our cost-free-ness to our children, by which time it will have majorly compounded. Since we have no principal invested in our cost-free-ness, we won’t be in a hurry to liquidate it. In fact, we won’t even be looking at it.

We’re calling our low buying averages anti-fragile. The lower they get, the more anti-fragile they behave in the aftermath of chaos. We’re adding an allowance towards fast incorporation of change in perception to the definition of anti-fragile, because of which our inherently anti-fragile low buying averages get to benefit from their anti-fragile nature (thanks again to Nassim Nicholas Taleb for giving us the framework of anti-fragility).

And what are we calling our cost-free-ness? I mean, it is seeming to be beyond fragility. It is giving benefit beyond any scale. Generational benefit. I don’t have a name for this effect, yet.

Our cost-free-ness has generated generational well-being. It has allowed us to not liquidate it, by the state of mind it has caused in us. It has allowed itself to be passed on.

Hmmm. Taking a phrase from Nichiren Buddhism, it is our…

cluster of blessings

…that we pass on…

…to the next generation.

Constants

Hey.

We play the game…

…with numbers.

Numbers are…

…our thing.

The thing with numbers is…

…that once we create a constant for ourselves…

…a pivot…

…something like a compass…

…AI doesn’t have access to it.

It’s our number.

It’s in our mind.

By the time AI gains direct access to our mind, we’ll be gone.

For example, we establish a low buying average, over many buys, in something we consider to hold value.

Each individual establishes their own, meaning…

…it’s each person’s own low buying average.

It decides the multiple.

It’s the centre-half. The libero. It creates the play. It’s unique to a person. No AI access. The whole game has been taken away from AI. It remains a human game. It’s not what the masses are doing. It’s contrarian. It’s going to make money.

Volatility is a constant.

Disruption is a constant.

Fear is a constant.

Greed is a constant.

Mass-behaviour is a constant.

Pigs getting slaughtered is a constant.

We play it by constants.

We’ve even started using unique mass-logic defying indicators, that only we have defined, that no one else knows about or can dream of, and we’re using them successfully, with no access to AI.

We’re functioning from within a matrix where we control the game, AI doesn’t.

Beauty is, outside of our protective matrix, we have access to all of AI’s capabilities, should we choose to use them.

Not yet though. Specifically after the 160+ girls murder rumoured to be caused by intel provided by AI, correct me if I’m wrong. AI as it currently is doesn’t seem ready for seamless implementation. All those foolishly believing so at this moment are the pigs referred to above. Pigs get what? Slaughtered. I didn’t say this first. It’s a common market saying. Markets are a – constant. We trust constants.

There will be many more blow-ups before seamlessness is achieved.

Think of banking systems causing and compounding massive errors because of blind reliability on AI.

This of AI suggested war strategy backfiring because of lack of understanding of human psyche.

Think of investment strategy imploding, left with eyes wide shut to AI, owing to lack of proper understating of human behaviour and its unpredictability. Anyways, on the plus side…

…think of any level of positive upheaval that AI will cause.

Think maximum.

Thought?

Since we play it by constants, we’ll continue to thrive, maximum disruption and beyond.

Such is the power of constants, that we successfully harness.

Matrix Diaries

Hey.

I think…

…you’ve pretty much understood…

…that we’re buyers in this whole mess.

I’d like you to add one more word to your understanding.

We’re…

…fearless…

…buyers.

We were not always fearless.

The human being is born with fear built in as a protective emotion.

During the process of rewiring, we wired this emotion out.

How does one do that?

Before I delve into it, wish to reiterate the we.

Who’s the we here?

Everyone who gets taught forward in this space and from this space, and then goes on to implement successfully, that’s the we. Why do such a thing? Gives me a kick. What’s a good life? A collection of meaningful things that give one a kick, implemented repeatedly.

Now imagine a matrix.

We are in the matrix.

Outside the matrix are all things that cause us fear.

Inside the matrix we implement our strategy without fear.

We have built systems that have automatically thrown out of the matrix all things that cause us fear against acting in the markets.

First we created a safety net. An emergency fund. Perhaps two. Out went fear of existence.

Starting with a small networth, we plunged into the markets. Luckily, we tasted failure fast, and lost it all, broken down, emergency fund to fall back on, young, enough energy and will power to bounce back. Now we had a model of how not to do it. We knew where we didn’t want to land up, and understood somewhat how not to do it. The experience of a blow-up and the knowledge of how not to do it made more fear exit the matrix, as we itched to get back into the game.

Slowly we built a system. Incorporated models. Saw what worked. What didn’t work for us exited. Model developed a slight edge. Tasted some wins. Confidence started to grow. As it grew, more and more fear exited.

Then came replication. Would the model work again? It did. Would it work bigger? Scaled up a bit. Working. Till not working. Fine-tuned. Working again. Knew we had something now. Came a black swan and its aftermath. Model excelled. Realized we were anti-fragile. Whatever was left of fear was now outside the matrix. We were tready for all out implementation.

And that’s where we are functioning from in this crisis.

If you say might last a year, no fear, we silently implement. We’re liquid because the model creates liquidity in good times. Two years? Still no fear. Liquidity might run out after 18 to 20 months, probably, but that’s the whole goal, to be fully invested, as per a model in which one has high conviction. Three years you say? We say still no fear.

The biggest money is made by…

…sitting…

…and we didn’t say this first. Someone you look up to did.

We’ve learn’t how to sit. Sitting is an integral part of the model.

While we sit, we do many constructive things. Since we’re investors, while we sit, we invest heavily…

…in OURSELVES.

Do the math.

Flow

Everything…

…flows.

It’s just that …

…at most times …

…we don’t see it …

…like that.

Mediocre vision …

…leads to lack of clarity.

Confusion.

Freeze.

Inability to recognize opportunity.

And / or …

…inability to act upon such recognition, even if it eventually comes.

What then come are the numbers.

Is it a surprise that one’s numbers are then also …

…mediocre?

Remedy?

Getting into the flow.

How?

Devise your own way.

Some meditate.

Others read.

Discuss.

Call.

Travel.

Workshops.

Conferences.

Study.

Analyze.

Speak.

Etc.

You..

…need to do your thing …

…to experience …

…and harness …

…seamlessness.

Oh me?

I do some of the above stuff, at times, …

…study and analyze a few times a week, …

…read more regularly, …

…and …

…I write.

Beyond

There’s a…

…rulebook…

…and then there’s beyond.

The world beyond…

…abounds with freedom.

The freedom to think…

…like no one’s thought before.

To make seemingly absurd connections leading to clarity.

To crunch numbers and patterns without crutches.

To see with multi-dimensional vision using the eye of the mind.

To function beyond, one first needs to learn the rules of the normal, worldly game, by the book.

Followed by repeat implementation.

There comes a time, when a rule is implemented subconsciously, without having to look.

Extrapolate to entire game, whole rulebook, implemented as if on auto, through one’s reflexes.

Get ready for beyond.

One goes…

…beyond…

…without warning…

…when one is ready as outlined above.

Goes, comes back, goes, comes back, it’s quite random.

Bottomline is, how conscious is one while one is beyond?

Journey can last for just a few seconds, or even a second. Example – one has a flash.

Level of consciousness while beyond allows one to address solutions for complex issues.

What’s the bottom for this market?

Ground-reality of war?

How do I solve my home-situation?

What overall pattern is this market gravitating towards?

Ulterior motives.

Etc.

How much of such knowledge can be incorporated?

Can it even be true?

Is it making common sense?

Does one have the confidence to act upon it?

Well, it’s not all going to add up immediately. However…

…repeated performance over many years allow one to make systems.

To gauge reactions.

To develop counter-reactions.

To write a rule-book…

…for implementation of beyond-insights in actual life.

Implemented together with the entire gamut of logical, human rules of the world, an intuitive, self-written rule book to go in tandem is…

… invaluable.

The We

First up…

…there’s a we.

What’s…

…the we?

Magic Bull, with its inter-twined concepts, strategies and multi-faceted approach…

…has now been taught forward…

…to many.

Later this month, this blog will turn 15, with many continuing to benefit in the future too.

Therefore…

…there’s a we.

It’s an ensemble of those benefited even a small bit by what’s in this space. This is a give-back cum self-evolutionary exercise which has resulted in the strengthening of financial fundamentals in my own mind too.

And, I do believe, that some new ground has been broken @ Magic Bull. The paramount novelty, in my mind, is how tenets inter-twine to form a comprehensive 360-degree market approach which can seamlessly be applied to any market.

Teaching forward makes for a better world. It sets a chain of positivity in motion. It is done without expectation of reward from the person receiving, who, in turn, subconsciously, gravitates towards paying something beneficial forward, to someone else.

There is a reward, though.

It comes unexpectedly, at times when it is greatly required. A closed door opens, an obstacle gets removed mysteriously, a hidden benefit emerges, and other such phenomena keep occurring regularly.

Apart from setting a wave of positivity in motion, another big reason to write is the journey. The enjoyable, immersive journey engages. Creates. Fulfils. The Universe adds its punctuation to the two pennies emerging from within.

What results is something tangible, yet portable into the far future.

Feeling

Who writes the rule-book for your market-life?

You do.

Why do you do it?

Nobody else is qualified enough.

You know yourself better than others.

Don’t you?

Thus, one feels one’s way through the markets, setting up lamp-posts and rules.

For example, I recently discover how to integrate my investing life with my trading life, in one particular market.

It takes me a long, long time to do so.

Nothing has really worked on this front.

Both lives have been getting affected, adversely, because of each other.

It’s outright frustrating and, I just sheer stop trading this market, to allow my investing life to prosper.

Simultaneously, I keep feeling my way through, trying out various permutations and combinations…

…, one of which seems to be working.

How do I know?

I’m trading again.

What have I done that I wasn’t doing before?

I haven’t been using the concept of exhaustion.

I exhaust my ability to invest, opportunity-wise.

Since I follow a small entry-quantum approach, liquidity exhaustion isn’t going to work.

Opportunity exhaustion is.

As opportunities keep coming, I keep going in, each time with small quanta, not changing anything in my investment approach.

One fine day, there is no margin of safety being offered.

I don’t feel like going in.

I am exhausted.

I shut down my investment widow…

…and then {[:-)]}, open my trading window.

Within an hour, I take a trade.

Lo and behold, integration has taken place.

Seamlessly.

All our demons are inside of us.

If one is not dying, exhaust it with feeling, even temporarily, to look after your other vital activities.

Where do you want to be?

Where do I want to be?

Do I want to look at a stock price and know where things stand with the stock in question?

Yes.

That’s where I want to be.

It’s not going to come for free.

What will it take?

Looking at the stock…

…for an year or two.

That’s what it will take.

How boring, you say?

Sure.

When stock market investing seems boring…

…that’s when you’re doing it right.

Excitement and roller-coaster rides are for video-game pleasure, and for making losses.

Money is made when it’s outright boring out there.

Where do you want to be?

In the money?

I thought so.

Then, please get used to boring and don’t ever complain again that things are boring.

How does one position oneself in such a manner that one studies a stock for an year or two.

Hmmm.

Let’s put some skin in the game.

I know, this phrase is becoming more and more popular, what with Nicholas Taleb and all.

Yeah, we are picking up stock.

What stock?

The one we wish to observe for an year or two.

Why pick it up? Why not just observe it?

You won’t. You’ll let it go.

Why?

Because it’s not yours.

So we pick up the stock? What’s the point of observing if we’re picking it up now?

Well, we’re picking up a minute quantity – one quantum – now. That gets our skin into the game. Then we observe, and observe. Anytime there’s shareholder-friendly action by the management, we pick up more, another quantum. We keep picking up, quantum by quantum. Soon, while we’ve kept picking up, we’ve observed the stock for so long, that now, one look at the stock price tells us what kind of margin of safety we are getting in the stock at this point.

Wow.

Now, future entries become seamless. One look and we have a yes or no decision. Isn’t that wonderful?

Absolutely.

That’s where we want to be.

Additive Connectivity

What’s your market footprint like?

Meaning, where do you tread?

How do you tread?

Are you making a hash of it?

Do you connect the dots?

Are you organized?

Does your one action span across multiple goals?

What exactly are we talking about?

Chaos.

You are your own light.

Nobody can help you, except you, ultimately.

Therefore, gear yourself up, to win the game for yourself.

It possibly won’t come to exist, that you do one market thing.

Market activity is multi-faceted.

Even if you’re trading one single entity, there are many actions that go along with this one single activity.

Yes, we’re talking about market actions.

The sum total of your market actions is your market footprint.

Make your actions additive.

Meaning?

Each action should add to you.

If an action is not adding to you, don’t do it.

Even an action that stops further loss adds to you, for example.

Also, make your actions connect across segments.

Meaning?

Let’s say I’m eyeing a stock for a possible purchase, or a repurchase. Stock gaps down next morning, before my action. Aha. Hold. 60-70% of all gap-downs play out further. There’s a solid reason for gap-downs. So… hold. Yeah, action on hold. Why? I will possibly get a better price for reentry later, there’s a 60-70% chance of that. Thus, an action now won’t add to me. Action postponed. What do I do with the money set aside for the repurchase? Liquid mutual fund purchase. Online. Seamless. Connecting across? Absolutely. I’m simultaneously accumulating liquid funds to later go in for a private-placement NCD. Therefore, my one action from the equity segment has connected across to the debt segment. Yeah, connectivity. Additive. Stopped me from possible high entry. Made upcoming NCD purchase more possible by adding to its intended corpus. Additive Connectivity.

Yeah, make yours a winning footprint.

Before signing off, I’d like to share with you that i’ve just decided to take additive connectivity to the nth level for myself.

Sure, I’ll be sharing more examples.

Sharing brings joy to everyone, even to the person who is sharing.

1-2-3 … Screenshot!

Move over selfie.

The screenshot is here.

It’s changing your style of work. It’s adding to your seamlessness. You can’t ignore it anymore. It’s there to stay… and evolve.

In the late ‘00s, I used to struggle with it.

My banker alerted me to the fact that screenshots existed. I was having some issue while net-banking. Banker asks me to email screenshot. I’m going like what’s that? Banker’s telling me to press F12. Then open Paint. Paste it there. Save as jpeg. Email jpeg.

Till the ‘10s started, I really couldn’t get the hang of the screenshot on my IBM-compatible laptop. Yeah, above procedure looks scary. It’s possibly the most complicated way of doing a screenshot.

Today, it’s as easy to do a screenshot as it is to snap your fingers.

Apple asks you to press Shift-Command-3 for shooting the whole screen, and Shift-Command-4 for cropping before shooting. IBM-compatibles still require F12, I think, but saving as jpeg and cropping got easier, I think it’s a mouse-right-click away.

Screenshots are bread and butter to how one can amplify one’s seamlessness.

You shoot a screenshot, and it is automatically stored in your Dropbox. Big thing is, you know where it is. You are not frozen by the upcoming task of looking for it. It’s in your Dropbox. Period.

Evernote even allows you to auto-send a screenshot as a note to itself. That’s as seamless as it gets.

On the mobile, the shooting feature still has a snag or two.

It’s normally a two-button combination, pressed in tandem. Half the time, you end up pressing one button before the other, leading to some other undesired outcome and no screenshot. That’s a little irritating. This has given birth to screenshot apps. However, switching such an app on, clicking, and switching off is cumbersome. I stick to the two-button combination, and take the mishits in my stride.

Once a screenshot is clicked on the mobile, or clicked and cropped, it is automatically stored for example in Photos, or Dropbox, and you have the option of sharing it at will, with any app. That is so powerful. You can Whatsapp it, email it, add to Evernote, Instagram it, whatever you like. On the mobile, your screenshot gets a ticket to travel to the rest of the world, In a flash. Yeah, the mobile is using the screenshot maximally.

This one powerful entity called the screenshot has greatly reduced turnover time.

You can express yourself optimally with the screenshot, and get someone to react instantaneously with a counter-screenshot.

You can use it for fun. Shopping. Approval. Proof. Entry. Whatever.

Don’t forget to crop.

You don’t want useless stuff being shared. Crop your screenshot. Only share what is required and is the subject of discussion / approval / fun.

No cropping can mean sometimes that material goes through (is shared) which is private, and its sharing affects you adversely. So be careful. Crop.

Everyone adapts the screenshot in their own way, to enhance their own style.

If you use the screenshot differently, in a way that is not listed here, please do share your input in the comments section, so that everyone can benefit by your input.

Thanks.

🙂

Small Things are Big Things

You’ve covered lot of ground, and are now cleaning up the field.

You’re tying up the loose ends.

Your small acts here count big.

Please see them through to their logical conclusion.

Don’t get up without completing full action.

An act at or towards the end leans on the main piece of action which you’ve already fulfilled.

It’s loaded on a spring. It’s effectivity is enormous. However, you are tired. You’re looking to close up. Hashtags, man, what are these hashtags!? Why do I have to put them, you’re saying to yourself. What purpose do they serve? Let me just forget about them.

No.

Hashtags are just one thing. A small thing, but then, a big thing.

Tying your act into your own seamless sphere is another such thing.

I know, it’s a pain…but seamlessness is a beautiful feeling.

I like to imagine that seamlessness is the equivalent of free-falling in a mad, mad world. Maybe that’s a nonsensical analogy, but that’s what I like to imagine. Seamlessness gives you a huge advantage in today’s world. Take it. Make the effort to keep yourself seamless.

Backing up, yeah yeah. Who likes backups? You’ve got to do them, however. No pain, no gain. I’ll talk to you after some data-loss. Only bother hooking up with me if you’re well backed-up. I don’t have the energy to lend a shoulder that withstands your tears in the event you weren’t back-up.

Where hashtags stop, that’s where your organisational skills should take over. Meaning, that one hashtag-search could give a thousand results. How do you still find what you’re looking for? Logic. You’ve used your logic while organising your work. Logically, your file should be somewhere, and that’s the somewhere you look. 90%+ you’ll find it there. Follow seamless logic. The first logical avenue that comes to mind…take it. Yeah, your seamlessness also stands on your own seamless logic.

Staying with what counts is a small thing, but again, it’s a big thing.

On the path, one strays. One is distracted. What do you do?

The mind is like a baby.

Don’t deny it outright.

Trick it.

Let it stray for a bit.

Then, when its defences are down, bring it back to the main path.

Keep bringing it back, until it starts getting a rooting righ by returning to home-base every half an hour. That’s the sweet-spot.

Don’t lose yourself into lost causes.

Achieve. Fine. Set goals. Sure. Get them done. Great. Move on.

Moving on is one small step. However, it’s a big step. Not many have the strength or the mental capacity to move on. Make sure you do.

How?

Open your eyes and see the world.

If you feel that your one achievement is going to make it spin, fine, stay on there, good for you. If not, please move on to your next achievement. Keep doing this till you find that one big, big thing for yourself. By that time, you’ll have many small things going on auto-pilot anyways.

Get a grip. Nip something small when it’s small. Get to the big. Go for it. 🙂

It’s Boiling Down to Getting Your Basics Right Smartie

Yeah, everything else is following.

We’re in flow.

World moves.

Decisions are taken as a matter of course.

It’s the build-up where stuff happens.

You’re nailing the build-up dear.

Million dollar question – how?

It’s all about systems.

Systems, systems, systems.

Get your systems in place.

Be cumulative.

Also, seamless.

Minimum overheads. Low-maintenance.

And, don’t stop flowing.

No, this is not very vague. It’s all happening. I describe it as it happens. Words used are for lack of better ones. These words describe the situation more than adequately. Don’t want more from them.

You’re in circulation. You can last. Very soon, something will stick. Your systems will start flashing. They’ll alert you to the next action zone. Engage where they’re telling you. It’s as simple as that.

Don’t ignore the flash of your systems once it happens. Ignoring would be the opposite of flowing. Don’t stop flowing.

You’re seamless, so you can expound upon something, anytime, anyplace. Good show. You can decide anytime, anyplace, whether you’re going with something. Need of the hour.

You’re cumulative. Next time you tackle the same situation, you have that much more hit-power, because the learning from the past encounter is at your fingertips (because you’re seamless, remember).

What’s gone into your systems?

Hit and trial.

Chopping off loser ideas. Letting winning ideas grow. Models. Winning models. You’re full of them. Something will start flashing, sometime, someplace. Follow it.

That’s how you flow, man.

The rest, as they say, will be History.
